.. an enjoyable article. I consider myself a seeker as well. I also consider myself to be in the very fortunately position of having found a fruitful blend between my “job” and my passion. To love what I do is so important to me and offers me a great deal of quality opportunities and memorable moments. I know situations will shift over time, but I have confidence that I will always seek those paths that promote what I enjoy doing most in life.

I truly appreciate your kind comments about my post, especially coming from someone with your expertise and educational background in this very subject. I can’t take all the credit for it, however, since Dr. Richard Johnson is the one who talks about the 5 competencies in his book “ReCareer: Find Your Authentic Work.” I wholeheartedly agree that women at this age are “hungry” to express themselves in unique and meaningful ways, which is why I so enjoy helping them to uncover what those ways are, and to map out a path to a vibrant and full life.

Your list of suggested competencies for women in midlife is absolutely right on. I have a Masters Degree in Career Development and have been counseling midlife career changers for many years. However, I’ve never come upon a more succinct, helpful, or valuable list than yours. Women at this age are hungry to express themselves in new and meaningful ways. With a list like yours, they’ll be well on their path to knowing their purpose and how to achieve their heart’s desire. This one is fantastic!

I’m so glad you found my article useful and informative, and hope that it will have that same effect on others who read it. I myself went through a period of hearing that nagging little voice inside of me that kept saying I needed a change, but sometimes we choose to ignore those internal nudges because where we are is at least comfortable and reliably safe. To change means to risk, and the unknown can be a scary place. It helps to go through the process I described in the article to help clarify whether or not a woman is ready – emotionally, physically and spiritually to walk down a new path. Often, what a woman discovers is that the need for a more authentic life is stronger than any fear of the unknown.

Evelyn, you have packed this article with excellent guidance as you usually do with your writing. I wish I had read it before Barbara and I started on our ReCareer adventure changing gears from the corporate graphic design world of NYC to the world of cartooning. It might have delayed my first trip to the hair colorist! There are many points which I found to be helpful in rethinking some issues we are struggling with still after 4 years into the new venture. You are a treasure!!
